Jeffrey A. Petersen
Funeral Director/Owner
Jeffrey A. Petersen, a licensed funeral director, has served as a member of the professional staff at Overton Funeral Home since December, 1989. Jeff and his wife Mary assumed the ownership and management responsibilities of the funeral home, September 13, 2007.
A native of Clear Lake, Iowa, Jeff attended North Iowa Area Community College prior to graduating from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1988. He received his license for funeral directing and embalming by the State of Iowa in 1989. Jeff is licensed as an insurance agent by the State of Iowa Insurance Division and a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and Iowa Funeral Directors Association. He is a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and a member and past president of the Indianola Noon Lions Club. He also served on the boards of the following organizations: Indianola Community Foundation, Indianola Good Samaritan Advisory Board, Indianola Community Youth Foundation and the Indianola Youth Football League. He enjoys biking and fishing. Jeff is a 2007 recipient of the Simpson College Achievement Award for Distinguished Community Service.
Jeff and wife, Mary have three children, Alex (Lindsay) Petersen, Megan (Jimmy) Frizzell, and Nicholas (Asa) Petersen; three granddaughters, Grace, Nora and Emmy; twin grandsons, Henry and Benjamin; and two granddogs, Zoey and Gracie.

Alex M. Petersen
Licensed Funeral Director
Alex M. Petersen is a licensed Funeral Director at Overton Funeral Home and has been around the funeral home for most of his life, working there even before graduating from high school. He’s a 2008 graduate of Indianola High School and later earned his Associate of Arts degree from Des Moines Area Community College before completing the Mortuary Science Program.
Alex is the son of Jeff and Mary Petersen and is proud to continue serving families in the community alongside them. He’s an active member of the National Funeral Directors Association and the Iowa Funeral Directors Association, where he currently serves as District 5 Governor for IFDA.
When Alex isn’t working, he enjoys gardening, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. He and his wife, Lindsay, have three kids—Grace and twin boys, Henry and Benjamin—who keep them busy. They’re also joined by a German Shorthair Pointer, Zoey, who can often be found helping greet visitors at the funeral home.

Ashley is a licensed funeral director who has been dedicated to serving families with care, dignity, and professionalism since graduating in 2010. She earned her degree in Mortuary Science from Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), and is a member of both the National Funeral Directors Association and the Iowa Funeral Directors Association.
Outside of her responsibilities, Ashley is married and the proud parent of one son. Ashley enjoys cooking, baking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She is also an active member of Indianola Community Church, where she values faith, service, and connection with others.

Mary Petersen
Office Manager/Receptionist
Mary Petersen is the office manager and receptionist, providing funeral home assistance in numerous areas of operation. She assists with correspondence, notifications of death, and the filing of death certificates. Mary is responsible for the creation of customized memorial folders and personalized video tributes for families and coordinates the special aftercare programs established by the funeral home. She assists with funeral services, memorial services and visitations.
Mary and Jeff have three children, Alex (Lindsay) Petersen, Megan (Jimmy) Frizzell, and Nicholas (Asa) Petersen; three granddaughters, Grace, Nora and Emmy; twin grandsons, Henry and Benjamin; and two granddogs, Zoey and Gracie.

Support Staff
Barb Gould joined the staff of Overton Funeral Home as a part-time employee in the fall of 2019. She assists as a receptionist helping with services and visitations. Barb is a member of the Mt Calvary Lutheran Church in Indianola and enjoys spending time with her family.

Bill Hon serves on the support staff at Overton Funeral Home as a part-time employee assisting with visitations and services as an usher, receptionist, and driver for the funeral home. He assists with the delivery of service notices in the Indianola and Warren County communities and the set-up for funerals and memorial services. Bill is a member of the Indianola American Legion.

Myra Hewitt joined the staff of Overton Funeral Home as a part-time employee in 2022. She assists as a receptionist helping with services and visitations. As a Stephen Minister, she spends her free time visiting people in the assisted living and nursing homes in the community.
