Services for Wilmer J. Elsinga, 79, who died Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA, will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 25 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial will follow in the Norwalk Cemetery, Norwalk, Iowa.

Wilmer graduated from Hull High School and Drake University.  He served on the City Council of Norwalk for 19 years, was the Administrator of the Corydon Hospital and retired from the City of Des Moines after 20 years.  Wilmer was a 50 year member of Welfare Lodge # 628 A.F. & A.M. in Norwalk.  He enjoyed making homemade candy, all of God's little creatures, but the most precious thing in his life was his beloved wife Bette.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Bette; his son Fred both of Norwalk; sister, Dr. Joan Jacobson of St. Cloud, MN.  He was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Mary Liisa Elsinga

His family would like to thank Mercy Hospice for their loving care that they displayed.

Visitation will be held 3 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 24 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Online condolences may be sent at www.overtonfunerals.com.
