William (Bill) R. Wilson Aug. 15, 1936 - Jan. 25, 2013 Bill, 76, of Indianola, IA passed peacefully, on Friday, January 25, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimers. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. A celebration of Bill's life will be held Monday, January 28 also at Overton's beginning at 2 p.m. Bill grew up in Indianola and was a lifelong resident of central Iowa. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1955. Bill grew up in the Ackworth Friends Church and later on attended the MCC Church in Des Moines sharing his beautiful singing voice throughout his life. He was active in many organizations throughout his life including the Waukee Community School Board, Za Ga Zig Shriners, First Friday Breakfast Club and the LGBT Caucus. He lived his life with a zest that will carry on through everyone who knew him. He instilled as much laughter as love in everyone he met and taught his children to give back to those less fortunate. Bill was always one to lend a hand or give the shirt off his back to someone who needed it, as he is doing by donated his body to medical research. Bill is survived by his brother, Melvin Wilson; sister-in-law, Ruth Wilson; children, Daniel Wilson, Toni (Jon) Backstrom of West Des Moines, Kelly (Patrick) Smith of Indianola and Becky (Jim) Snethen of Arvada, CO; grandchildren, Cody and Austin Smith, Betheny, Courtney and Natalie Wilson, Samantha and Caleb Snethen, Caley and Caden Backstrom; great-grandchildren, Kai and Rylee Smith. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Sean Cunningham, Carmen and the staff at Westview Care Center, who provided the best compassionate support and care.
