A Celebration of Life service for William "Bill" Pendgraft, 87, of Indianola, IA, who passed away November 28, 2020, will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, June 26, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola.
Bill was born November 22, 1933. He lived in Oakland, IA his first 18 years, where he graduated from Oakland High school in 1951. He participated in all sports.
Bill attended Simpson College in the fall of 1951. He participated in football and baseball and was a member of ATO Fraternity. It was here where he met Mary Kay. Bill graduated in 1955 and Mary Kay in 1956. A week later, they were married on June 10, 1956. They celebrated their 65th anniversary last year.
Bill taught 8 th grade Social Studies at Indianola Jr. High School for 39 years and coached several Jr High sports. He also was an assistant baseball coach at Simpson College for 22 years. He received honors at both schools. Bill loved his life with integrity and was respected by all who knew him. He was a positive influence on many students.
Bill and Mary Kay adopted 3 children, Diane in 1963, Brenda in 1964 and Mark in 1967. It was a very happy time for them. They spent a lot of their time following the children's activities.
Upon retirement in 1994, Bill and Mary Kay invested in a motorhome and a lot at Sun Valley Lake where Bill did a lot of fishing, one of his favorite past times. They also enjoyed attending athletic events, both Indianola High School and Simpson College.
Bill was preceded in death by his daughter Diane, son Mark, parents, three sisters and six brothers. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Jon Finley; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; four nephews; and one niece. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
Memorials may be given in Bill's name to Indianola Middle School Athletic Department, Simpson College Baseball or First United Methodist Church in Indianola.
