Bill was born August 20, 1935 in Bremer County, IA and was a Korean War veteran, serving in the United States Marine Corp. from 1953 to 1956. He was a 1964 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and had lived in Waterloo, Cedar Falls, and eventually moved to Indianola in 1968. Following graduation, he worked diligently for thirty years as a tax accountant for Dial Financial, Norwest Financial and Wells Fargo Financial. After retirement, Bill volunteered tirelessly for the Warren County Habitat for Humanity and his church. He was an avid fisherman from birth.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Dorothy; daughters, Diane (Rev. G. Kim) Wills of Pella, Laurie (Brian) Fuller and Sharon Wilson of Indianola; six grandchildren, Christopher, Amanda and Nicholas Wills, Nicole and Jaimee Fuller and Nina Wilson; and brother, Paul (Phyllis) Ehlert of Carlisle. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Shindley; father, Henry Ehlert; step-father, R. J. Shindley; and his nephew, Tim Ehlert.
Visitation will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 7 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Warren County Habitat for Humanity or Redeemer Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be sent at www.overtonfunerals.com.
