WILLIAM "BILL" BROWN Pleasant Hill A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, January 3, 2014 in Fonda, Iowa for William "Bill" Brown, age 81, who died Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. William "Bill" Wesley Brown V. was born to William Wesley Brown IV. and Mary Jane (Hammen) Brown on July 5, 1932 in Faribault, Minnesota. The family later located to the Rockwell City, Manson, and Fonda areas. He attended grade school in Manson and later high school in Fonda. In June of 1951, he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving until December of 1953. He later enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on December 14, 1955 where he served his country. He was discharged on March 31, 1957. Following his discharge, he lived in Knoxville and Indianola, Iowa. Bill regularly attended church at St. Thomas Aquinas in Indianola. He was a faithful man and knew the Bible extremely well. Bill was also a member of the American Legion in Indianola. In his spare time, he enjoyed drawing and writing poetry. He was very talented in many ways. Family was important to Bill and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Catherine Kolb of Ida Grove, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Charlotte Wissink; his brother, James "Red" Brown; one niece, Theresa Volkert; and brother-in-law, Alvin "Bud" Kolb. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Homes and Cremation Center was in charge of arrangements.
