Obituary

Wesley Allan Ehlert, 70, of Carlisle, passed away in his home Friday, March 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.  A Celebration of Wes's Life will be held at the Sportsman's Club in Hartford on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m.  It will be a potluck with meat, drinks and table service provided.  A Committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2025 at the Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

Wesley was born December 9, 1954, in Waterloo, Iowa, the second child of Paul Edward and Phyllis Ann (Fickess) Ehlert. Wesley lived in Waterloo, Iowa, during his early years until the family relocated to Council Bluffs, where he attended high school. He moved to the Des Moines area in the early 1980s, when the family again relocated, where he resided there until his death.

Wes was an avid and accomplished fisherman and card and pool player (hustler?)  He was a Nascar fan, and his favorite driver was "The Intimidator" Dale Earnhardt, a perfect fit for Wes, whose demeanor and looks didn't always match the love, kindness, and generosity he showered on his family and friends. He was a devoted father and grandfather to his girls and grandchildren and a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. Wesley will be greatly missed.

Wes is survived by his daughters, Tessa Danielson and Amanda Danielson; grandchildren, Ebony, Sophiya, Dianah, Alexzander, and Daniel; siblings Mark (Karen) Ehlert of Columbia, MO, Melissa (Tim) Butterfield of Des Moines, and Jennifer (Jerry) Ohnemus of Carlisle; sister-in-law, Jan Ehlert of Des Moines; his dog, Maggie; his cat, Cat; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Phyllis Ehlert; and brothers, Timothy Ehlert and Brian Ehlert.

Memorials in memory of Wes may be given to the American Cancer Society.
