Obituary

Wendell W. Garrison, who died Sunday, February 6, of pneumonia at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center, where he had resided for the past eight years, after developing Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 9, at 10:30 a.m. at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial will be in the Liberty Center Cemetery.

Born in New Virginia, Iowa, Wendell graduated from New Virginia High School in 1945 and has lived south of Indianola for 26 years. He worked for Warren County Maintenance Department for several years. He then worked for Warren County Oil for 13 years before returning to Warren County Maintenance Department in 1984, where he operated a road grader in the Carlisle area. In 1990, Wendell retired and worked part-time for Midwest Valley Chemical Company for 5 years.

Wendell was a member of the Indianola Masonic Lodge and Su Z Q Square Dance Club. His hobbies included a Honda Goldwing motorcycle and his 1931 Model A Roadster. He also enjoyed dancing, gardening and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Garrison of rural Indianola; a son, Mike and his wife Jean of Liberty Center; a daughter, Shirley Nehring and her husband Fred of Liberty Center; two sisters, Maurine Streeter and Wilma Wheeler, both of Indianola; and three brothers, Willard of Milo, Don and Dale, both of Indianola. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home; the family will be present 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty Center United Methodist Church or Lacona Fire and Rescue.
