Walter was born and raised in rural Warren County, near St. Charles, Iowa. He had worked for Sargents Rock Quarry in Winterset for many years. He enjoyed hunting, old cars, planting tomato plants, snowmobiling and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Lengeman; children, Christine and Pamela Shuff and Stacey (Shawn) Lenguadoro all of Indianola, Anthony Jones of Grand Junction, and Monica Baringer of New Virginia, Susan Lengeman of Des Moines and Anne Lengeman of Grand Junction; brothers, Joe and Larry Shuff; sisters, Anna McDaniel, Phyllis Norgard and Peggy Holliday; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; first wife, Sondra Shuff of Indianola. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Angela Shuff; 3 grandchildren; 1 brother; and 4 sisters.

Visitation will be held 5 – 8 p.m., Monday, May 21 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present from 6 – 8 p.m. to greet friends. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
