Vivian (Viv) A. Schneider, 89, of Sun City West, AZ died on June 21, 2011 following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Her loving husband Robert (Bob), daughter Kim, and her caregiver Maggie were all at her side. Viv was born on February 26, 1922 in Norwalk, IA to Jerry and Edith Anderson. She was one of 10 children (which despite her disease, she never forgot.) She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1939. Viv spent five years working as an accountant at Central Tractor Parts in Des Moines in the early 1970's. In 1976 she began her career as a real estate agent in Norwalk and Des Moines. In 1986, she retired to Sun City West, AZ with her sister, Eleanor Anderson. Viv was an avid bowler and softball player, but her greatest sports passion was lawn bowling which she excelled at in her retirement years. Viv was a national senior lawn bowling champion and represented the United States at the Senior Olympics in Vancouver, BC in 1992. It was on the lawn bowling greens in Sun City West that she met the love of her life, Bob. Viv was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Wendall, Fred, John, Kenneth, Bill and Jim; and sisters, Marion, Eleanor and Ruth. She is survived by her husband, Robert Schneider of Sun City West, AZ; daughters, Jean Walton (Lee) of Quincy, IL and Kimberly Gould of Des Moines; son, Carl Moore (Ronda) of Des Moines; stepson, Martin Schneider of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, Michelle Wellman, Julie Shepard, Derek Aamoth, Zachary Moore and Allison Moore; great-grandchildren, Brandon Riggs, Reagan Wellman, Jordan Wellman, and Grace Shepard; sisters-in-law, Katie Anderson, Dee Anderson and Elvie Andersen; many nieces and nephews, and her granddog Sophie. We would like to extend our gratitude to her caregiver, Maggie. Maggie treated her with love, tenderness and dignity. A special thank-you to Maggie's husband Steve and Viv's housemates at the Lora Care II Group Home in Surprise, AZ for their kindness and compassion. The assistance of Odyssey Hospice was also greatly appreciated. Graveside burial of cremains will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Norwalk Cemetery, Norwalk, IA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Viv's name.
