Obituary

Virginia Wise passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at Trinity Village, Papillion, Nebraska. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9 at the Gable Chapel in the First United Methodist Church of Indianola.

She was born February 8, 1917, at Fontanelle, Iowa to Albert R and Mabel E. Handley. She graduated from Fontanelle High School in 1934. From there she enrolled at Iowa Methodist School of Nursing and graduated a registered nurse in 1938. On September 29, 1938, she was married to Gould D. Wise of Dallas Center, Iowa, a registered pharmacist. The two of them pursued their professions until 1942, at which time Gould joined the Navy and served in the Pacific until the end of World War II. During this time, Virginia served in many nursing capacities. During and immediately after the war, Virginia and Gould had three boys. Gould worked as a pharmacist in Dallas Center following his release from the Navy, Virginia busied herself with the rearing of their three children.

They moved to North Platte, Nebraska in 1951, where Virginia established her family's home, continuing to raise her children while engaging in community and church activities. Virginia has been a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, and president and member of Chapter E.B. of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She moved to Indianola in 1998, where she was a resident of The Village until 2004.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gould Wise, son, James Wise and sister, Elsie Wallace. She is survived by her children, son Robert Wise of Kansas City, MO and son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Jacqueline Wise of Papillion, NE, and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Wise of Toledo, OH. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Paul Wise of Toledo, OH and Larry Wise of Houston, TX and three great-grandchildren. Virginia is also survived by Maude White of Indianapolis, IN, Wayne Handley of Greenfield and Irene Bosman of Des Moines.
