Virginia Rush, 93, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2020. She was born in Newark, New Jersey on December 24, 1926 to parents Wilbur and Viola Cox, who resided in Millburn, New Jersey. Virginia completed her 12 years of public education, followed by four years at NJ State Teachers College. Upon graduation, she taught in two different school districts at the elementary level. In 1950, she took advantage of a new program by the United States Air Force. Upon completion, graduates were commissioned 2nd Lieutenants. Her military career took her to two Air Force bases in the continental US and eventually to Ladd AFB in Fairbanks, Alaska, where she became base housing officer. There she met her future husband LT. James Rush, Army Corps of Engineers. They were united in marriage on November 24, 1954.
Virginia is survived by her husband, James Richard; daughters, Nancy Wilson, Barbara Rush, and son, James Robert Rush; nine grandchildren, Matt (Erica) Wilson, James (Shanna) Wilson, Connie (Justin) Beatty, Francie Wilson, Mike (Nicole) Wilson, Tim Wilson, Josh Wilson, Amanda Pichler (Darin Webb), Alicia Pichler, and 13 great-grandchildren.
There will be a cremation with interment following at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA.
Memorials in Virginia's name can be made to the Good Shepard program at Wesley Life in Indianola, Iowa.
