Services for Violet Hawk Wilcox, 91, who died Friday, September 12, 2008 at Windsor Manor in Indianola, will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the Linn Grove United Methodist Church rural Prole, IA. of which she was a member.  Burial will follow in the Linn Grove Cemetery.

Violet was born the daughter of Charles and Minnie Bailey on September 7, 1917 in Cherry County, NE.  She married Elmer Hawk in 1934 and was blessed with six children.  She was united in marriage to Melvin Wilcox in 1958.  They lived on a ranch in Stapleton, NE until Melvin's death in 1968.  She then lived in North Platte, NE until 1990 when she moved to Martensdale, IA.  In 2005 Violet moved to the Windsor Manor in Indianola.  She was a member of Daughters of the Nile.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters; son James, and a great grandson.

She is survived by her children, Melvina (Jim) Brown of Prole, Frances Scherff of Aurora, NE, Deanna (Wayne) Cheek of Republic, MO, Ellen Swanson, Kearney, NE. and Frank (Sharon) Hawk of Norwalk, IA; 15 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 5 - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 16 at the Linn Grove United Methodist Church where family will be present to greet friends from 6 – 8:00 p.m.  Memorial Contributions can be made to her church.
