Vera Viola Ruble Vera Viola (Smith) Ruble, 97, of Liberty Center, IA, passed away May 20, 2014, at Westview Care Center in Indianola. She was born on August 22, 1916, southwest of Liberty Center, to Thomas and Minnie Mae (King) Smith. She was united in marriage to George Wayne Ruble and to this union were born three children: Janet Elaine, Herbert Wayne, and Max Eugene. Vera and Wayne made their home on a farm southwest of Liberty Center before moving to Liberty Center in 1955. She attended Snake Hole and Round Top country schools and graduated from Liberty Center High School in 1934. She taught at Highland and Norwood country schools. After the Norwood country school closed, she worked at National Handicraft for a short time and retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Des Moines. Surviving are her two sons, Herb (Connie) of Indianola and Max (Janice) of Liberty Center; four grandchildren, Julie Middleswart (Andy), Gina Amos (Chad), Brent Ruble (Shari), and Alicia McKenzie (Todd); and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Janet Elaine, husband G. Wayne, infant granddaughter Jolene Renae, and her eleven brothers and sisters. Visitation will be Thursday, May 22, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola from 4 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Overton Funeral Home on Friday, May 23, at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Bethel Chapel Cemetery in Clarke County.
