IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vadis Lavaughn
Fry
January 23, 1921 – June 25, 2020
Family services for Vadis Lavaughn Fry, 99, who passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020, will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2020. A public visitation, under CDC guidelines, will be held prior to services from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home. You may also join family on our Website Live Stream for the funeral service beginning at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow services in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Vadis graduated from Milo High School. She married Murray Willis Fry on June 28, 1939. They lived in and around the Milo area and later moved to Indianola, attending both the Milo Methodist Church and then transferred to the Indianola First United Methodist Church. They farmed, managed a Conoco station in Adel, Iowa, and then Vadis worked at Larro Research Farms, Bordens Dairy, and completed her career at the Warren County Treasurers Office.
Vadis enjoyed bowling and won State Champion. Vadis and Willis enjoyed golfing at Shady Oaks. She walked and exercised diligently and this was a big part of keeping her healthy and going strong for 99 years. She lived in her own apartment at The Village until she quietly went to sleep and flew to Heaven with angel wings to be with her Heavenly family.
Being a great cook, there were many favorites, two of which were chicken and noodles and chocolate bread pudding. We could never count the many many pies our family has consumed.
God's calling for Vadis and Willis was to be the care takers of the family. They nurtured and nursed her parents and Willis's mother, her brother and sister, and anyone else in the family that needed assistance; rides to the doctor or hospital and picking up medicine or anything needed. She spent many nights sitting up with family. Vadis fulfilled her calling as a caretaker with love, humility, grace and a big smile and happy heart.
They traveled some and did a lot of camping when the children were young. Hobbies were ceramics, woodworking, crocheting, knitting and quilting. Vadis made beautiful quilts, ceramic Christmas trees and Santa Clauses, and many other items for the members of the family. Lots of family get togethers, with grandchildren everywhere outside and inside, and feeding everyone was a priority. She loved the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren immensely, they were the pride of her life. Vadis was always happy, loved to sit and visit with anyone, had a great outlook on life, and was always ready for the next stage of her life. She never quit and pushed herself everyday as she knew it was not her time to quit.
Mom/Grandma, you will be missed tremendously. You were our rock, and encourager, and we so enjoyed doing for you and taking care of you these last few years you were living at The Village. You are the BEST!
She is survived by her children, Lon (Roberta) Fry, Linda (Dennis) Schrader, Neal (Connie) Fry, Diana Pfaff; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 24 great great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Addie Fry and Sue Tipton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Fry; son, Gary Fry; granddaughter, Julie Hart; and great-grandson, Joseph Lee Schrader; brother, Orin Cambron; sister, Marjorie Tipton; brothers-in-law, Howard Tipton and Jim Fry.
Memorials may be given to The Good Shepherd Fund at The Village or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
