Obituary

V. MAXINE McANINCH Indianola Services for V. Maxine McAninch, 91, a long-time resident of the Indianola area, who passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014 in Des Moines, will be held 2 p.m., Monday, January 13 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. She was born Virginia Maxine, on December 11, 1922 to E. Pauline and Gorham Williams, in Medora, IA. Maxine grew up in Warren County with seven siblings. After graduating from Indianola High School in 1940, she obtained her teaching certificate. She taught in a one room school house at Butcher Creek. At the time, you could only teach if you were unwed, so she gave up her career when she met and married Roy Eugene McAninch "Gene" on May 29, 1941. Gene and Maxine were blessed with 6 children of their own. Over the years while running McAninch Excavating, Gene and Maxine purchased several homes and farms, all the time building a great life for their family. As the years went by, their family tree grew. When she went home to be with the Lord, Maxine was loved by thirty-six grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Over the years she found joy in many things. Maxine loved quilting, visiting with family and friends, and delighted in serving the Lord any way she could. Survivors include her children, Stanley (JoAnne) McAninch of Indianola, Kathryn (Ben) Selle of Wolfeboro, NH, Lora (Leland) Goode of Indianola, and Charles McAninch also of Indianola; sisters, Leota Broyles, Betty Broyles, Bernadine Cotten, Mary Driver and Marjorie Nordgren; ten grandchildren, twenty-one great-grand children, five great-great-grandchildren and many friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, E. Pauline and Gorham Williams; her husband R. Eugene McAninch; daughter, Virginia Sharon; son, David McAninch; brothers Walter Williams and Lyle Williams; sister, Jeanette Condon. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 12 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Middle River Friends Church.
