Graveside inurnment of cremains with military rites, for Thomas Christopher Sullivan, 62, of Indianola, Iowa, who passed away Friday, April 4, 2025, will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2025, in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, Iowa.
Thomas was born and raised in Iowa the 7th of 10 children. As with all of the kids in the family, he had his duties to help at home. Besides having two great brothers, he had to deal with 7 sisters and all of their drama. He was head strong and when he wanted something he pursued it.
He attended East Buchanan Community Schools from Kindergarten to 12th grade. He was very athletic, participating in football and track in high school. He also participated in high school theater productions. His friends from high school said he was a good guy and could be full of mischief.
Thomas attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa and completed his degree in criminal justice. While at college, he also participated in community theater.
He knew early on in life that he wanted to be in law enforcement. After community college, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps working as a military policeman. Following his Honorable discharge, he became a policeman in the civilian world. He served the Des Moines Police Department faithfully from August 1, 1988 until his retirement in February 28, 2012.
Thomas was a dedicated member of the Shriners serving until 2014.
He will be missed. Semper Fidelis and Justitia Omnibus.
