Obituary

Thelma Guilford, 95, passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2005. Thelma was born in Valley County, Nebraska on April 18, 1909, the second of two daughters born to Maude and Emil Beushausen. At the age of two, she traveled with the family to Wasatch County Utah where her parents homesteaded until 1915. The family returned to Nebraska and most of Thelma's early schooling came in Valley County and later Sherman County where she graduated from Loup City High School and later Kearney Normal College, now U.N.K.

She taught country school for two years and in 1931 married Edwin Guilford formerly of Comstock, Nebraska. The couple had two children, Bob and Jim, and in 1948 moved to Indianola, Iowa residing at 506 W. Salem Ave. until 1993.

Thelma loved gardening, especially working with flowers and was quite accomplished in that endeavor. Bridge was also a favorite pastime and she and Ed enjoyed many evenings spent with their good friends in the bridge group. In later years, sports on TV occupied much of her time - all sports and especially tennis and golf.

Thelma was preceded in death by her sister Helen, parents Emil and Maude, son Jim and husband Edwin. Survivors include son Bob (Janella), three grandsons: Jim (Mary) Kenosha, WI, Doug (Kim) Indianola, Jon (Susan) Shawnee, KS, and granddaughter, Cheri (Dan ) Riebhoff Indianola, a former Daughter-in-law Charlotte, of Indianola and nine great grandchildren, as well as many relatives in California and Tennessee.

Family grave-side services will be held Monday, February 21 at Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Following the service the family will greet friends at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in the fellowship room from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
