A Celebration of Life Service for Thelma Ruth Amos, 89, formerly of Indianola, who passed away peacefully Monday, November 11, 2024 at Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 15, 2024 at Center Chapel United Methodist Church with inurnment following in the IOOF Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m. prior to service at the church.
Thelma Ruth Amos was born September 14, 1935 at Redfield, Iowa. Her family lived at Winterset and Van Meter before moving to Indianola in 1949. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1953 as class Salutatorian. Following graduation, she worked as a secretary for the Warren County Sherriff's Office. She married Charles Amos in 1956 despite her mother telling her not to marry a farmer. Thelma enjoyed life on the farm, raising chickens and selling eggs. She was a 4-H leader, TOPS member for 45 years, active member of Center Chapel UMC, excellent seamstress, and Textile Superintendent at the Warren County Fair for many years. She also made and sold many Angel Food cakes at the local Farmer's Market.
Thelma is survived by her son, Craig (Denise) of Indianola; daughter, Carla (Mark) Brinkman of Williamsburg; grandchildren, Nathan (Jaime) Brinkman of Webster City and Alison (Wade) Warnecke of Walcott; great-grandchildren, Elaina and Charley Brinkman, Anna and Henry Warnecke; siblings, Linda (Don) Freeman, Carolyn (Allan) Herrick; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents; sister, Joyce Harlow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in memory of Thelma to the Center Chapel United Methodist Church.
