Obituary

A Celebration of Life Gathering for Susan “Sue” Brown, 72, who passed away Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia, Iowa, will be held at a later date, at the Community Building at Green Acres, 5347 Morman Trail, Melrose, Iowa 52569.

Feisty, strong-willed, and never one to shy away from sharing her opinion, Sue was a woman who lived life on her own terms. Those who knew her knew exactly where they stood with her, and that was simply part of what made her who she was. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Whether it was spending a quiet evening on the deck, taking a golf cart ride around Green Acres, tending to her yard and beautiful flowers, or enjoying a fresh jug of sun tea, she appreciated the comforts of home and the little things that made life special.

She shared many wonderful memories with her beloved husband, Denny. Together they enjoyed their annual trip to Lilley’s Landing in Branson, Missouri, a getaway she eagerly anticipated each year. Following Denny’s passing just six months earlier, his absence was deeply felt, and her family finds comfort in the thought of the two being reunited once again.

Above all else, she loved her people fiercely. Her children and grandchildren held a special place in her heart, but there was one title she especially cherished: Nanny. It was a name she loved and a role she wore with immense pride. Being their Nanny was one of the greatest joys of her life.

For her grandchildren, summer breaks often meant time spent at Nanny’s house, where ordinary days turned into cherished memories. She was a wonderful cook who loved nothing more than feeding the people she loved. Days were filled with golf cart rides, swimming, grilling out, and simply enjoying time together. As they have gotten older, she was always just a phone call away, often calling to check in, make sure everyone was taking care of themselves, and remind them not to work too much. What started as a quick check-in could easily turn into an hour or two conversations. Those calls were simply Nanny’s way of showing she cared, and while her family may no longer see her name light up their phones, they’ll forever cherish the conversations, advice, and love that came with each call.

Nanny had a personality all her own. She was opinionated, a little stubborn, and never afraid to tell you exactly what was on her mind. While she wasn’t one for grand displays of affection, her love for her family was undeniable. Though her family will miss her dearly, pieces of Nanny will always remain in the things she loved most: beautiful flowers in bloom, warm summer evenings, family gathered around the table, and a glass of sun tea on the deck.

Sue is survived by her; children, Kindra (Daryl) Kennedy, Chris (Megan) Mosher; grandchildren, Lindsay (Alex) Petersen, Layne (Ashleigh) Mosher, Tyler (Madde) Kennedy, Milo Mosher; great-grandchildren, Grace, Bennett, Henry, Benjamin, Gatlin, Lawsyn, Bria. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Denny Brown; and parents.

Memorial donations can be made to the family in Sue’s memory for a contribution at a later date.
