Services for Steven W. Mealey, 64, who died Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at home, will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, February 12 at Farmers Chapel United Methodist Church of which he was a member . Burial will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, IA. Steve was born in Indianola and served in the United States Navy and the Army Reserves. He was a volunteer fireman for 15 years for the Bloomfield Township Fire Department (Northern Warren Fire Department) and retired from John Deere in Ankeny after many years. Steve and his wife Maxine who died in 2009, enjoyed traveling and listening to Blue Grass music. Because of that love Steve choose to be the major sponsor of 2011 Blue Grass Tuesdays on the Square in Indianola. He is survived by his daughters, Michelle (Brent) Hammond and Amanda (Darren) Lee of Des Moines; grandchildren, Alecia and Kyla Hammond and Logan and Olivia Lee; brothers, Alan and Scott Mealey and Rick Chaplin; sisters, Glenda Loving, Barb Klingensmith and Pat Kisley; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; parents, James and Martha Mealey; brother, Ronald Mealey. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 11 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the ALS Foundation or the Iowa Heart Association.
