Steven Dale Burns, 73, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Paula Ray Burns (Foresman). Over 52 years of marriage, they raised three children and built a life rich in love, family, and cherished memories.

Born in Exira, Iowa, Steve was the son of Charles Ray and Maxine Burns. His family later settled in Des Moines, where he graduated from Tech High School. After working for several years as a car mechanic, Steve followed his entrepreneurial spirit and started his own flooring business in Indianola, where he and Paula raised their children.

In his younger years, Steve enjoyed playing softball, skiing, camping and golfing with family and friends. He and Paula created countless memories traveling, golfing, and playing cards with neighbors who became lifelong friends. One of Steve’s greatest joys was spending time outdoors, especially fishing. He treasured taking his grandchildren fishing in the neighborhood pond — moments that will be remembered forever.

Known for his fun sense of humor, Steve always had a joke to share and a smile to offer. He deeply loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and his kind, loving spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.

Steve is survived by his devoted wife, Paula Burns (Foresman); his children, Jackie Logue (Jeremy) and Nick Burns (Jessica); and his grandchildren, Carter Logue, Gracie Logue, Rylee Burns, and Taylor Burns.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Maxine Burns; his son, Dustin Burns; and his grandson, Jackson Burns.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Overton Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to services.
