He also enjoyed following and supporting Indianola high school athletics. He was employed by the State of Iowa Disability Determination Services as a disability examiner for the past 13 years. Known for his good-natured, sense of humor, Steve was surrounded by a circle of friends both at home and work whom he regularly entertained on a daily basis without fail. He simply brightened everyone's day without ever knowing the lasting impact he had on others. He thoroughly enjoyed being with friends on and off the links and liked nothing better than getting in a few rounds. His friendships were enduring as was his love and devotion to his family. Steve faced insurmountable health challenges with tremendous courage and strength. His presence will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife, Beth of 21 years; daughters, Emily and Abby; mother, Millie Coffey; sisters, Lynn (Pat) McConnell and Beth (Mike) Mealey as well as his nieces, Madie Mealey and Megan (McConnell) Hughes and nephew, Ross McConnell. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Bob Coffey. Visitation will be held 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, November 17 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Memorials may be given to the family in his name to establish an education fund for his daughters.
