SONDRA KAY FUNARO Indianola Sondra Kay Funaro, 61, died peacefully, Tuesday, December 24, 2013, surrounded by her family at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Indianola I.O.O.F Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in Palmer Hall at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, where there will be a 7:30 p.m. rosary. Sondra was born October 1, 1952 in Des Moines, the daughter of Clarence and Claribel (Gehringer) Hopple. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1970. Sondra was united in marriage to Greg Funaro on August 20, 1971 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Sondra and Greg opened Funaro's Deli and Bakery in 1996. Sondra is survived by her loving husband of over 42 years Greg; four daughters Jennifer Funaro (Jim Willett), Jill Funaro (Jeremy Sherlock), Alicia Funaro (Frankie Manders), and Rose (Bryant) Houston all of Indianola; 5 grandchildren Jessica, Michael, Ashley, Joey, and Blaze; four sisters Linda Linn of Indianola, Cindy Price of Des Moines, Susan (Ted) Miller of New Virginia and Lisa (Mark) Sutton of New Virginia; two brothers-in-law Frank (Linda) Funaro of Mankato, Minnesota and Kevin (Gretchen) Funaro of Des Moines; and a sister-in-law Mary Jo (Harvey) Sergio of Des Moines. Sondra was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law Frank Funaro and mother-in-law Eleanor Funaro, and brothers-in-law and Charlie Funaro and Tom Price.
