Obituary

Sidney Melbourne Ramey was born in Harlan, IA on November 28, 1939. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and family, on October 16, 2022 at the age of 82. He was preceded by his father, George Ramey and mother, Ona L. (Weimer) Ramey. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jacqueline (Schlie) Ramey; son, Mike Ramey (MaryJo); daughters, Jodi Bentley, Tami Ramey Derby (Derek), and Tina McCullough (Rich); grandchildren, Christopher Ramey (Melissa), Ashley Dodson (Michael), Sydney Bentley, and Dominick Cresta; 7 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Darlene Freeman and Bonnie Schutt.

Sid spent most of his childhood, along with his sisters, at the Elim Children's Home in Elkhorn, IA after his mother passed away when he was only 2 years old. In 1958, Sid met Jackie while cruising around in his '55 Oldsmobile in the town of Denison. They were married in 1960 and moved to the City of Des Moines, where Sid started delivering abstracts of title for Peoples Abstract Company. Sid managed to work his way up through the ranks until becoming President of the company in the late '80s. He worked a total of 44 years at Peoples Abstract until his retirement in 2004, when he and Jackie moved full-time to their lake home on Lake Panorama. They spent their remaining years on an acreage in rural Indianola.

Sid's hobbies included working on cars and tinkering in the garage. He was a beloved boss with a genuine concern for his employees and always treated them like his family. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and as a respected businessman. He was a great advisor with a wonderful sense of humor. He will be sorely missed.
