SHIRLEY ARLENE MANDERS Indianola Services for Shirley Arlene Manders, 80, who passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 11 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Shirley Arlene (Streeter) Manders was born July 31, 1933 to Freda Ester (Nine) Streeter and Floyd Jackson Streeter in rural St. Marys, Iowa. At the age of five, the family moved to Milo, Iowa where Shirley attended Burgess Country School until 8th grade. She continued school in Milo graduating in 1951 and was a member of the Milo United Methodist Church. On January 2, 1954, Shirley was united in marriage to Frank Edward Manders, Sr. in Indianola and to this union four children, Judy, Rickie, Frank Jr. and Timothy were born. Shirley worked at American Republic, Thacker's Super Value and Pamida. She was also a housewife, mother, grandma and aunt to many kids in town. You could find her at the Corner Sundry sitting out front. In her lifetime, she liked to camp and lived in Arizona for four winters with husband, Frank. Following Frank's death, she drove back and forth for five years, then decided to come home to Indianola for good. She liked Country music, collecting angels and cooking for her family and friends. Survivors include her children, Frank E. Manders, Jr. of Indianola and Judy (Stan) Loomer of Madison, OH; sister, Betty Nyswonger; grandchildren, James Manders, Ben Loomer and Frankie Manders and Christi Manders; nine great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank Edward Manders, Sr., sons Rick and Tim Manders, granddaughter Chris Loomer, and brother Max Streeter. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 10 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the family in her name.
