IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Jean
Kolsto
December 26, 1937 – December 2, 2018
Shirley Jean Kolsto, age 80, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2018, surrounded by family. Shirley was born to Esther and Harley Weeks in Indianola, IA on December 26, 1937 and graduated from Indianola High School in 1955.
Shirley met and married the love of her life, husband Jim, in Indianola where they lived their entire lives raising their 3 daughters Kelley, Kindra, and Kerri.
Shirley lived her life with purpose, drive, love and compassion. Shirley's direct no-nonsense outlook on life combined with her dry wit was a refreshing quality that endeared her to all that knew her. Jim's career took him on the road for extended periods of time. Stepping up, running the house and raising their daughters only emboldened her self-resilient, independent drive.
Shirley dedicated her life to her family and extended family, running a home daycare for 41 years. She loved "coffee at the table" with family and friends, shopping for bargains, supporting Iowa State and Iowa football and basketball teams, gambling and watching the horse races at Prairie Meadows, and dining out at her favorite spot – La Pizza House.
Shirley is survived by sister Phyllis; daughters, Kelley (Dave) Weihs, Kindra (Norm) Olson, and Kerri (Ben) Clark; grandchildren, Zac, Bailey, Drew, Blake, Whitney, Canton, Dacotah, Birch, Cree and River. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jim Kolsto; her brothers, Don, Edward, Homer, and sister, Helen.
A special thank you to her niece, Cathy, neighbor, Dutch and Mercy Hospice.
