Funeral services for Shelly Lynn Vander Tuig, 57, of Indianola, who passed away Friday, August 18, 2023 will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, August 26, at Overton Funeral Home with burial following in the IOOF Cemetery.

Shelly was born on October 19, 1965 in Sheldon, Iowa as the youngest child of Robert & Donna Brinkman.  She moved to Indianola in the late 1970's and graduated from Indianola High School in 1984.  She was employed for many years at Peoples Bank and spent the last several years of her life working for Indianola Public Schools, where she had a passion for supporting students with various special needs.

Shelly married Wayne Vander Tuig in 1998 and welcomed in two step-children, Seth and Abby, whom she loved as her own. During their life together they enjoyed spending time with family and grandkids, tailgating at Iowa State games, caring for their golden retrievers, and traveling. A few of their favorite destinations were Aruba, The Dominican Republic, and the Carolinas. They were married for 18 years before Wayne's passing in 2016.

Shelly spent the final years of her life in a relationship with Dave King. They enjoyed entertaining friends, spending time with their grandkids and Bernese Mountain dogs, and taking road trips on the Harley. They travelled from Salt Lake City to Virginia, and various destinations in between.

Shelly is survived by her siblings, Deb (Mark) Johnson, Tom (Brenda) Brinkman, sister-in-law Lori Brinkman; stepmother, Gladys Brinkman; children, Seth (Emily) Vander Tuig, Abby (Jared) Snyder; partner, Dave King; 10 grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; parents, Robert and Donna Brinkman; brother, Rick Brinkman.

Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 25 at Overton funeral home where family will be present to greet friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Shelly to Kiya Koda Humane Society.
