Obituary

Sharon Kay (Miller) Petersen, 85, passed away on October 11, 2026 at Westview Care Center in Indianola, Iowa. Sharon was born on August 30, 1941 in Mason City and graduated from Clear Lake High School. At the age of 18, she met Allan Petersen, the love of her life, when she asked him to buy her some “booze” for a night out, since she was under age. After a short time of dating and engagement, they were married August 16, 1960 and lived in Clear Lake until 2025, when they moved to Indianola to be closer to family. Sharon stayed at home to raise their family until the kids were older, at which time she worked in manufacturing, retail and eventually spent several years working for a State Farm agency as an administrative assistant. Sharon had many interests through the years including bowling, playing bridge, reading, and cooking/baking for her family. She enjoyed having coffee and chats with friends and family, and frequently welcomed friends and relatives to join in on meals. A favorite was her Sunday fried chicken dinners.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 66 years, Allan; children, Lisa (Jim) Engstrom, Jeff (Mary) Petersen, Tracey (Craig) Stevens; grandchildren, Alex (Lindsay), Jessica (Adam), Megan (Jimmy), Joshua, and Nicholas (Asa); great-grandchildren, Jude, Dahlia, Grace, Nora, Benjamin, Henry and Emmy. She is preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Florence Miller; and siblings, Susan (Terry) Stallman, and Donald Miller.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2026 from 1 to 3 pm at Overton Funeral Home, 501 W Ashland, Indianola. Additionally, there will be a visitation on Tuesday, October 20th from 5 to 7 pm at Ward Van Slyke Funeral Home, 310 1st Ave N, Clear Lake. A celebration of life service will be held at Ward Van Slyke on Wednesday, October 21st at 10:30 a.m. with a time of gathering, starting at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Clear Lake Municipal Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be decided at a later date.
