Obituary

Memorial services for Richard J. and Sharon Kay Berkenbosch, of Norwalk, will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held prior to services starting at 9:30 a.m. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Richard was born January 11,1942 and died April 12, 2019. Sharon was born December 13, 1945 and died March 19, 2022. They were married March 28, 1964.

Richard (Dickie, Dick, J(only), Berky, RJ), first job was delivering papers for the Des Moines Register, worked as bagger before enlisting in the U.S. Army, then worked for and retired from Firestone. Next he climbed into a truck with Sharon to drive (as team) for Schneider National, the last job he did before joining Sharon in retirement was working for Capital City Fruits.

Sharon (Sherri), was born in the Indianola Community Hospital. She loved doing a variety of the jobs and activities. Some of her unique adventures included being one of the first women to drive stock car in Iowa, she even won season championship at Stuart Speedway. Being left-handed she would meet the world head on, in activities like bowling, coaching, and being an active parent in her children and grandchildren lives; with the arduous task of teaching her girls how to write right (handed).

They are survived by daughters, Deb Berkenbosch, Rebecca Berkenbosch; grandchildren, Jason Woodward, Megan Chapman, Kayleigh (Mike Keding) Chapman, Brittany (Dustin) Martz; great-grandchildren, Arianna, Jayce, Kadyn, Shane,  Evelyn, Waylon, Aubrey, Madylyn; sister, Jeri (Mike) Daleski; sister, Judy Barrington; sister-in-law, Joanne Douglas; brother-in-law, Doug Purdy; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Preceding in death are parents, Marjorie and Cressel Berkenbosch, Jim and Esta Oxenreider; brother, Dennis Oxenreider; sister, Tersa Purdy; nephews, Tom Oxenreider, Matt Daleski; grandson, Lewis Woodward.
