Roy was born in Earlham, Iowa and served in the United States Navy. He was employed for 25 years with a meat packing plant in Des Moines. He also worked for Iowa Lutheran Hospital and several local floral shops.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; three children, Randy, Tammy and Michael Brown; six step children, Michael Brown, Matt and Mitch Ostrem, Lana Doss, Linda Geisler and Laurie Gooder; brothers, Darvin, Doug and Dan Brown; sister, Mary Louise Brown; 7 grandchildren; 16 step grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores and son, Rodney.

Visitation will be held from noon Tuesday, November 6 until time of services at the church. Memorials may be given to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
