Ronald Dale Leib, age 83, of Indianola, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 30, 2026, due to complications from diabetes, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Ronald, or better known as “Ronnie," was born on June 19, 1942, on his home farm just south of Anita, Iowa, to Eugene and Helen (Lackey) Leib. He was the fourth child of eleven siblings. He left school after 8th grade to work on his family’s farm near Guthrie Center. He married the love of his life, Darlene (Uhlmann) Leib, on June 24,1960. They lived in Atlantic and were blessed with three children, Brian, Denise, and Rhonda. Ronnie worked at Payless Cashway in Atlantic, for several years before they moved to Indianola in 1965. He then joined the team at Armstrong Tire, where he worked for over 38 years.
Ronnie was a man of many trades. If something was broke, he would find a way to fix it. He had several activities that he spent his time with. His hunting dog, Wing, could be found at his side while coon hunting. Raising miniature ponies was his passion. You could find him at flea markets, auctions, and horse sales on most weekends, often accompanied by Darlene and his grandchildren. Before going to work the evening shift at Armstrong, he'd often be in the garden or tending to the many animals he had, including all the strays the grandkids brought home. In the evenings, he enjoyed watching Westerns. His grandkids were his pride and joy, including seven great-grandchildren.
No matter where Ronnie went, there would always be someone who knew him. He could strike up a conversation for hours, with just about anyone. You could always spot him in a crowd with his farm cap and bibs on. Every time you hear an "I s'pose" or "I reckon," you'll remember it in his voice.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, Darlene, of Indianola; children, Brian, of Indianola, Denise, of Martensdale, and Rhonda, of Norwalk; grandchildren, Nicole (Eric) Thompson, of Altoona, Ashley (Nate) Caskey, of Norwalk, and Zoey Schultz, of Martensdale; siblings, Joyce Allard, of Russell, Janice Creger, of Phuket, Thailand, Rick (Carol) Leib, of Ankeny, Joanne (Rod) Van Dyne, of Corydon and Rodney Leib, of Chariton; brother-in-law, Raymond Jackson, of Ankeny; seven great grandchildren, Braden, Aubri, Alex, Hayleigh, Braxton, Braelynn, Lainey; along with numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Leib, in 1992; mother, Helen Leib, in 2015; brothers, Russell Leib, in 1979, Ray Leib, in 2009, and Roger Leib, in 2026; sisters, Judy Adair, in 2002 and Jolene Jackson, in 2022; nephews, Brandon Leib, in 2002 and Jason Jackson, in 2009; brothers-in-law, Bill Creger, in 2003, Calvin Allard, in 2009 and Shorty Adair, in 2025.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Friday, April 3, 2026, at Overton Funeral Home, in Indianola, with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
