Obituary

Ronald Eugene Hommer passed away peacefully in Omaha, Nebraska on January 21, 2017 at the age of 91 years, 7 months in the loving care of Josie and George Estes. Ronald suffered from severe dementia in the last few years of his life, and in 2011 moved to Omaha to be closer to family and receive much needed help from them.

Ronald was born on June 13, 1925 in Warren County, Iowa to Elmer and Reva Hommer. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served in WWII. He worked many years in the farming and John Deere business, and also in the machine maintenance field. Ron spent most of his life using his knowledge to fix and repair anything and everything, and he loved every minute of that. His tools were his most prized possessions and he loved working in his garage.

He was preceded in death by first wife Eudora (Johnson) Hommer, second wife of 50 years,  Mary May (Henson) Hommer, son Calvin Eugene Hommer, brothers Richard "Leland" Hommer, Glendal Hommer, Eldon Hommer, and sister in-law Twyla Hommer.

Ronald is survived by daughters Marilyn (Glenn) Johnson, Sharon Harding-Drake (Charlie), and son Stephen (Suzette) Hommer, grandchildren Richard (Tricia) Hommer, Randy Hommer, Robert Hommer, Julie (Scott) Jacobson, and Jim (Barb) Harding, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Also a host of family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2 pm Friday, January 27, 2017 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, Iowa.  A family visitation will be held at 1:00pm.  Online condolences may be made at www.overtonfunerals.com.
