A Celebration of Life Gathering for Ronald Atkinson, 57, of San Antonio, Texas, who passed away Saturday, September 19, 2026, will be held 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, November 22, 2026, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, Iowa.

Ron was born to parents Ralph E. Atkinson and Marie Crater on May 9, 1969. He received his GED on August 5, 1999 and continued to get his Engineering degree, all while being a husband and father to his three daughters.

Ron never had a stationary life due to the military background his father had, as well as relocating for work. He worked anywhere between the plastic factory to ADM providing for his family.

Ron found enjoyment in so many things, such as playing darts, pool, spending time outside fishing, grilling, and golfing, along with frisbee golfing with family and friends. In his downtime, he loved making things out of wood, such as an outdoor well, a cow planter, a Mario-esque kart for his daughters to drive, as well as many other great things. When he was getting his groove in life, he really enjoyed playing Dungeons & Dragons (DND) and was happy to show off his fun uniquely shaped dice sets and figurines to his daughters.

He is survived by his parents, Ralph E. Atkinson and Marie Crater; brother, Ralph Atkinson; children, Erica (Cole) Huerter, Julia Townsend, Christina Strouse; his four grandchildren; and many friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Huerter family in Ron’s memory for a contribution at a later date.
