IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rodney Warren
Prickett
September 3, 1952 – February 25, 2026
Services for Rodney Warren Prickett, 73, of Indianola, who passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026, in Des Moines, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 2, 2026, at Trinity United Presbyterian Church with burial following in Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Overton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Rod may be given to Trinity United Presbyterian Church Open Table. In honor of Rod, the family requests those attending the visitation and the service to wear Iowa Hawkeye, Dallas Cowboys or Indianola Indians attire.
Rodney was born on September 3, 1952, to Darrell "Ray" and Wilda Prickett in Indianola, where he grew up, worked, and raised his family. He graduated from Indianola High School with the Class of 1971 and was a proud member of the undefeated football team for three consecutive years.
In July 1973, he married his high school sweetheart, Kathy, beginning a lifelong journey together.
Rodney began working at Indianola Municipal Utilities in the Water Department in 1969 as a summer employee. After graduation, he went full-time and faithfully dedicated 45 years of service before retiring in December 2014.
He was one of the last babies born at the hospital in Indianola. Shortly after birth, Rodney suffered a brain bleed, and Everett Overton drove him by hearse to a hospital in Des Moines for emergency treatment. The brain bleed is believed to have caused his hearing loss. Rodney wore hearing aids for the rest of his life, but his hearing challenges never prevented him from living a full, joyful, and active life.
For 17 years, Rodney proudly fired the cannon at Indianola Varsity football games and always looked forward to Friday night football.
Rodney was a kind man with a very big heart. He was always there when someone needed help and would give the shirt off his back without hesitation.
A loyal and devoted church member, Rodney actively participated in many church activities, including Open Table and other ministries. He especially enjoyed his Wednesday afternoon Corner Sundry IPERS Club with former coworkers and friends, as well as Thursday morning coffee with the men's group at church.
Rodney was a dedicated father and papa. He never missed a concert, dance recital, Boy Scout meeting, sporting event, school pickup, babysitting opportunity, or simple time spent together. He was present at every event for his children and grandchildren and was deeply involved in their lives. He treasured his family above all else.
Though he was known as a jokester, Rodney's greatest trait was his heart of gold. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Rod is survived by his children, Amanda (Russ) King, Sarah (Brian) Blakely, Zack (Tina) Prickett and Emily (Ryan) McAllister; grandchildren, Noah King, Henry King, Joshua Blakely, Logan Buchanan, Grayson Prickett and Emmett McAllister; companion, Rebecca Swainey; siblings, Leland (Peggy Clary) Prickett, Laverne Prickett, Tom (Nancy) Prickett, Royce (Debbie) Prickett; several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Prickett; parents, Ray and Wilda Prickett; grandchildren, Samuel King and Laney Jo Prickett and sister, Jeanie Little.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Rod may be given to Trinity United Presbyterian Church Open Table.
