IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rod Harrison
Erb
September 17, 1929 – January 15, 2025
Services for Rod Harrison Erb, 95, of Indianola, will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, January, 21, 2025 at the Indianola First United Methodist Church, with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Rod Harrison Erb was born September 17, 1929, in Indianola, Iowa, the eldest of four children born to Grayce (Dillon) Erb and Harry Erb.
Rod and his brother Jim attended Pennington, a country school near their farm, and Beech School before graduating from Milo High School in 1947.
Rod had a natural mechanical aptitude and loved fixing cars and machinery. He worked on the third-generation family farm throughout high school.
He met Carolyn Taylor at a Milo square dance. His charm and persistence won her heart and they were married on June 22, 1952 at the Milo Methodist Church. Soon after, Rod enlisted for four years in the US Air Force and served one year in Korea.
After military service, the couple and their young son returned to Iowa and took the helm of the family grain and livestock farm and Rod's parents moved to Indianola.
Consistent soil/water conservation and diligent weed control advanced his goal to leave the land better than he found it. He favored innovation but was no stranger to hard work and the 18-hour day!
Rod's strong Christian faith was sustained by worship, prayer, bible study and singing in the choir at Milo and Indianola Methodist Church.
He volunteered for church missions' projects and contributed time and service to Heifer International. After retiring from farming at 83, he kept busy building Habitat houses.
Rod passed peacefully after a stroke on January 15, 2025. He was preceded in death by his son, Greg and his brothers Jim and Mike.
His memory and legacy will be cherished by survivors Carolyn, his loving wife of 73 years, daughters Dawn Michelle (Gary) Brumwell, Lisa Erb (John Wanamaker), sister Mary Lou (Carl) McCoy, and grandchildren Alexander and Catherine.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m., prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Rod may be given to Warren County Habitat for Humanity or Heifer International. To sign on online condolence, visit our website at www.overtonfunerals.com.
