Bob was born in Avoca, Iowa to parents, Robert Hart True and Bertha Thies True. Growing up on the farm he was active in Scouts and became Avoca's first Eagle Scout. He graduated from Avoca High School in 1947 and entered Iowa State University. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Farm Operations. It was here he met his future wife, Mary Hill, and was married to her in 1951.
Bob soon was inducted into the United States Army and served two years at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina.
After Army service he became manager of the Oscar Mayer Farms in northern Illinois. These farms supplied the Chicago area with meat and poultry.
Bob's next venture was management of the Sears warehouse which supplied all the Chicago and metro garden centers. At this time he became interested in adhesives. He set up a lab in his home basement, which was the start of a small specialty adhesive business. Through a friend he was recommended to Frye Manufacturing in Des Moines, Iowa. Bob set up Fry's adhesive branch and later he started his own adhesive business in 1968, Adhesive Compounders, and is located on 5th Street in Des Moines. Bob sold the adhesive business in 1989 and retired to Pharr, Texas, there he pursued his life long hobby of fine wood working: making wood geared clocks, fine furniture, and inlayed art pieces for family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; three children, the Rev. Linda True (Warren) Stueve of Van Meter, Barbara Ann True of Fort Worth, TX, and Robert Hart (Jessica) True III of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Philip (Stacey) Stueve, Nathan Stueve and Brian Stueve, Leanna Jane True and Samuel True; siblings, William True of Avoca and Dorothy Mathers of Fort Collins, CO; also many nephews and nieces.
