October 18, 1939 – June 23, 2023
Robert (Bob) Swanberg, 83, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023, at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Services will be held 11 a.m, Friday, June 30, 2023, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. The visitation will be held prior to services from 9 to 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Cremation will follow services, with inurnment of cremains to be in the Linn Grove Cemetery 9 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2023.
Bob was born in Merrill, Iowa, to Oscar and Ivy Swanberg, but lived in Kingsley, Iowa most of his young life. He graduated in 1957 from Kingsley Pierson High School. In 1962, he married Geraldine (Jerri) Kisting the love of his life. They moved to Des Moines in 1962, as Bob began work with NCR. To their union 2 children were born: Kimberly and Michael. Bob worked 10 years for NCR, before he began his entrepreneurship. He began with Eldon Root and then after 5 years he went out on his own, creating Ace Millwright Inc., retiring in 2006.
One of Bob's favorite things to do was attending the Old Threshers Reunion, where he exhibited gas engines and later tractors. He attended for 50 yrs. In his retirement, he took up his stain glass hobby. He trained several people and even began a social club that met every Tuesday. The 'Club' was his life line. Bob is best known for the crosses he made and gave away. He said he quit counting after 10 thousand. They have been distributed throughout the world.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years "Jerri", daughter Kim Hill(John), son Michael (Mary Jane), seven grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Ivy Swanberg, siblings Max Swanberg, Shirley Jensen and Phyllis Bruning.
