ROBERT "DENNIS" MATHES

After a 12 year battle with bone cancer, Robert "Dennis" Mathes passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

He was an avid fisherman (year round), loved his H.O. Railroad, and was a NASCAR fan. Dennis graduated from DMACC and was a Chevrolet technician for 34 years in Indianola.

He was a loving husband and friend to wife Kathy for over 20 years and a devoted step-father to Jeanette (Gregg) Gossett and step-grandfather to T.J. Wheeler and Miles Gosett.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dora Mathes; foster parents, Vincent and Marian Pemble; and brother, LeRoy Mathes.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; sisters, Ella (Steve) Hansen, Lynda (Bobby) Schattuck; niece, Christine (Donald) Lebo and nephew Scott (Laura) Hansen and families.

His family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Bradley Lair and his oncology staff at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines, as without all of you we wouldn't have the memories of the last 12 years. Also, thank you to Kavanagh House for making Dennis as comfortable as possible during his final days.

Cremation has taken place with a memorial to be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to his wife or to a charity of donor's choice.

Love you honey, you are missed very much. Rest in comfort and peace.
