IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert
Major
February 15, 1966 – January 20, 2017
ROBERT P. MAJOR
Hartford
Robert P. Major was born in Des Moines, Iowa on February 15, 1966. He was preceded in death by his father Paul E. Major. Survivors include his mother, Sharrie L McKinney; three sisters, Debbie Buckman, Cheryl Phelps, and Bev Miller. Rob had the privilege of sharing a part of Kelly Wilson's life and becoming lifelong friends. He is also survived by three sons, Stephen, Logan and Thomas; grandson, Kaden Major; and Han who held a special place in Rob's heart; and many other family members and friends he formed lifelong bonds with.
Rob had a passion in his heart to serve and protect others. This has shined through at different times and different ways during his life. As a young boy, he became involved in Boy Scouts and helped others with obtaining their badges including Eagle Scout. He was involved with Warren County Explorers and worked closely with the Warren County Sheriff's office on numerous projects.
Rob graduated from Southeast Warren High School on May 19, 1985 and served in the United States Army Reserve for six years at the 830th Medical in Des Moines, Iowa as an Optician Specialist. He was a volunteer fire fighter and EMT for the Indianola Fire Department. Rob was passionate, took pride in and also enjoyed the services he provided through the business he built and was owner of Hartford Gun Sales and Training.
Robbi, whom only Della Miller was excused for calling him such, played a role in teaching unconditional love. He was very thankful for that relationship and the love shared. He looked forward to "Mom's fried chicken" any time he could get it. Jim Butler was a very close best friend whom Rob even called a brother and Jim and Mary Fox had been great friends and neighbors of Robs. To those many whom he had connections with and shared lifelong bonds, you were his "family."
As we prepare to celebrate the life of Robert Paul Major, please remember those jokes he told to make you smile or the ones he told to see you shake your head, the laugh that is unforgettable, the advice he gave, the life he shared with each of us, even if for a moment.
A special thank you to the many whom shared unconditional love and played a larger role in Rob's life more so then many of us know or can comprehend. Thank you to each of you individuals for sharing a part of your life with Rob.
Donations for the Robert Paul Major memorial fund may be made in cash or check made out to Heather Swanson, Rob's Niece. All donations will be greatly appreciated. Rob personally researched the Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.) International Organization and he felt they truly make a difference in children's lives in our own communities. Donation to B.A.C.A. in Rob's honor can be sent to: B.A.C.A, PO Box 41605 Des Moines, Iowa 50312
