Robert George Lyall, 76, of Indianola, Iowa, passed away at his home on Monday, August 11th.  Services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held prior to services from 1 to 3:00 p.m. Inurnment will be held at a later date Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, Iowa.

Robert was a Valentine's baby born on February 14th, 1949 in Stuart Iowa to Robert and Marcella Lyall. He grew up in Stuart with his sister Mary, and brother Glenn. The family later moved to California then back to Iowa. When they returned, they lived in West Des Moines where he graduated from Valley High School in 1967.

He served his country in Vietnam as an Air Force Gunner, flying over 700 hours of combat missions. He was a proud member of the sheet metal local 45 union, and was much loved by everyone he met.

He married his beloved wife Cheryl in 1985. He owned his own business and created metal artwork for over 35 years using recycled materials. Robert was an eclectic man and very creative. Prior to having children, Robert and Cheryl loved to scuba dive and go roller skating. As their children grew older, they traveled throughout the Midwest sharing his craft at art shows and especially the Iowa state fair, spreading joy and whimsy to many.

Robert had a unique way of seeing the world; he was always looking for ways to pay it forward or share some wisdom.  By doing art shows he was able to change people's perspectives where one may see junk, he saw flower and beauty.  He enjoyed the challenge to turn things people no longer wanted into treasures.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Marcella, wife Cheryl, brother Glenn Lyall and brother-in-law Curtis Frey. He is survived by daughters, Brooks Lyall and Morgan (Matthew) Ginder; grandson, Charles Ginder; sibling Mary Schmidt (Michael Clark), Connie Lyall; sister-in-law, Shirley Frey; brother-in-law, Lyle (Susan) Frey; and nieces and nephews, Michael Schmidt, Patrick Schmidt, Emily Schmidt (Sean) Dohoney, Christina Lyall, Nicholle Pendergraft, Sara Lyall, Paul Lyall and Sarah Lyall, Heidi (James) Frey, Michelle (Tony) Frey-Tarbox, Stacey (Jordan) Frey-Chidester.
