ROBERT L. BENSON Indianola Services for Robert L. Benson, 83, who passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013 will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 4 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Robert "Bob" lived in Indianola most of his life and attended Indianola High School graduating in 1949. He worked in the car business his entire career at three dealerships in Warren County; Lentz Chevrolet, Wright Chevrolet and finally Watters Autoland. He enjoyed his work and finally retired, full-time, when he was in his late 70's. During his career, Bob was the recipient of several sales excellence awards. Bob met and married his wife Virginia "Ginny" Hinson while serving for the United States Navy in Charleston, SC in 1954. They moved to Indianola shortly after Bob ended his military service there and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on a Caribbean cruise. Bob enjoyed boating and vacationing at his lake home in Camdenton, Missouri. He also enjoyed playing pool, card games and being with his family and friends. He didn't know a stranger. Bob was an excellent son, brother, husband, father and friend. He will always be missed. Survivors include his wife Virginia; son, Steve (Karen) Benson of Indianola; daughter, Robin (Randy) Gardner of Johnston; grandchildren Adam Gardner, Deviney and Bobby Benson; and brother, Gordon Benson of Dahlonega, GA. Preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Alta Benson and sister, Dorothy Ryan. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 3 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Temple of God Church.
