Ricky Lynn Young (Rick), 68, of Des Moines, Iowa, was born May 15, 1951 to Ivan and JoAnn (Aubert) Young in Indianola. Rick passed away July 6, 2019 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

Rick married Deborah Johnson in 1974, and to this union was born a daughter, Christina Lynn. In 1989, he married Caryn (Freeman) Tompkins. Rick worked for Capital Sanitary Supply, as well as, co-owning Denric Maintenance with his brother Denny. He was a great fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers. Rick loved to woodwork, garden, play his guitar and spend time with his grandchildren.

Rick is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Caryn; his children, Christina Young, Heather Tompkins and Eddie Tompkins (Heather Jo); Stepmother Janine Young: brothers, Denny Young (Tess), Lonny Young, Becky Leonhardt, Steven Leonhardt (Wreta), Marty Leonhardt, Anne Berry (Dan), Nancy Kalny-Greenman, and David Kalny (DeeDee); grandchildren, Rebecca and Victoria Tompkins; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan Young, JoAnn and Bernie Leonhardt, sister Sherry Lee (Kalny) Walker and best friends Barry Hood and Tim Pullen.

There will be a celebration of life gathering at the Masonic Lodge in Indianola at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2019.
