IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard "Richie"
Veasman
June 16, 1992 – August 23, 2023
Services for Richard "Richie" Veasman, 31, of Norwalk, formerly of Indianola, who passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at home, will be held 10:30 a.m., September 7, 2023 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Richie was born in Des Moines, Iowa on June 16, 1992. He was raised by his grandpa and grandma and grew up on their farm south of Indianola. He loved all the trucks, tractors, lawnmowers, wagons and any other thing he could find to ride, drive or pull. He adored his grandpa and missed him terribly when he passed away. In the years growing up, Richie and grandpa would be seen all around the area loading trucks, waiting at the elevator, visiting neighbors, and going out for coffee and breakfast at some favorite places. He also enjoyed music, dancing, going to the park, family picnics, and anything John Deere. One thing he did not enjoy was picking up sticks in the yard and was often seen driving the mower and wagon, while grandpa picked up the sticks.
Richie attended Indianola Community Schools and graduated in 2010. After high school, he moved into Indianola, where he found many new friends through the Genesis program and his new home. He had an infectious smile and laugh and was quickly loved by everyone he met. He always had a hug ready when you saw him, complimented you on your shirt, hat or hair and wanted to know if you were going to work that day.
Richie spent the last several years living with a very special family who gave him much love. Richie had opportunities and experiences that were thought not possible. They became his family too. They went on many outings and adventures together in which Richie was able to experience camping, boating, going to the races, fishing, bowling, a tractor parade, golf cart rides, taking vacations to Branson, Arkansas, and to the John Deere Museum in Iowa. Richie lived his dream of being back on a farm with Terri, Tina, and Jabob. The farm was named "Richie Acres" in his honor. He was able to mow the lawn again on grandpa's mower, look after the livestock, and help or "supervise" with the chores. He especially loved his dogs and swimming in his backyard pool.
When Richie was born, his family was told of all that he would never be able to do, and throughout his life he has overcome and done so much more. He has taught us all many things about love and life. He was strong, social, energetic, loving, and had a good sense of humor. Richie cared deeply for his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with his mom and Aunt Vicki. He will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed to know him.
Richie is survived by his mother, Shelly Veasman; aunts, Vicki Veasman and Connie Keller; cousins, Kylie and Cole Keller; his bonus moms, Terri and Tina Ciecalone; and his bonus sister, Heather and Cody Mc Kasson and their children; Skyler, Braden, Jensen, Hinley and Hadley; his bonus brothers Jacob Stump, Casey Miller, and Drew Wright and Cassidee Parks and their children Emersyn, Irelyn, Maylyn, and Adler; his bonus aunts/uncles Sheila and Gary Hagen, Julie Graczyk, and Chuck and Karla Ciecalone; his bonus grandparents Mike and Liz Alley and Linda Ranker. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Judith Veasman.
Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m., September 6, 2023 at Overton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Richie to the Pink Tractor Foundation or MercyOne Hospice.
