Memorial services for Richard Boord, 58, who died Monday, November 3, 2008, at the VA Medical Center in Knoxville, Iowa, will be held 7 p.m., Thursday, November 6 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held prior to services starting at 5 p.m.
Richard Calvin Boord, born September 19, 1950 at Decatur County Hospital, son of William Calvin and Gretchen Ruth Boord, grew up in rural Leon, Iowa with his siblings Charlotte, Janet, Sandy and Terry Boord. The family moved to Warren County in the late 1950's and he later graduated from Indianola High School in 1968. Richard attended DMACC and earned his Associates Degree as an Auto Mechanic. He then enlisted with the United States Army in 1970; he served his country and was stationed in Germany. While enlisted, he married Kathleen McCoy in 1971. They were blessed with two daughters, first April Michelle in 1972 and then Angela Marie in 1974. The family resided in Indianola. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family including camping, riding bikes, cooking, and vacationing in Colorado. He always had a love for books, cars and music.
Richard worked at McCoy Sanitation for 10 years and then at Waste Management for 15 years as a roll-off truck driver.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Calvin Boord; his brother, Terry; and his sister, Janet. He is survived by his daughters, April (Scot) Freschi and Angela Boord; grandsons; Garrett, Kael and Raleigh; granddaughter, Alaina; his mother, Gretchen; sisters, Charlotte (Darrell) Konrad and Sandy Wallace; along with many nieces and nephews.
