IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard "Mark"
Bone
May 19, 1955 – January 1, 2024
A Celebration of Life Gathering for Richard "Mark" Bone, 68, of Indianola, who passed away Monday, January 1, 2024 in Des Moines, will be held 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, January 7, 2024 at the Izaak Walton League 16383 118th Ave. Indianola, Iowa 50125. Mark grew up in Belen, New Mexico where he developed a love of Mexican food, especially his mother's homemade sopapillas. He moved to Indianola at the age of 14 and graduated from Indianola High School. He followed in his father's footsteps beginning his career as a lineman and finished his career as a substation wireman for Mid American Energy.
He developed a connection with nature from a young age and his love for the great outdoors blossomed into a lifelong pursuit. He enjoyed many activities such as fishing, hunting, and whitewater rafting with family and friends in the Pacific Northwest. Mark was at home sitting around a campfire or on a boat. He created many lasting memories that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to share those moments. Mark was also an avid sports fan which began with him playing basketball and continued with watching his children play paintball and softball.
In his retirement, Mark enjoyed traveling the open road in a motorhome but did not necessarily love driving it on the winding roads in California wine country. Coffee by the fire with friends was the way he liked to start day in south Texas. Throughout the day you may have found Mark and his wife riding bikes around the bird park, taking Miles to the dog park, playing cribbage with family and friends or going to the woodshop. He would often end the day visiting his favorite local restaurants or one of the many south Texas honkey-tonks.
Mark is survived by his wife Vonda Bone; children Cody Bone and Melanie Bone; mother, Earlene Clark; siblings, Joel Bone, Darrell (Pam DeRusha) Bone, Arlene (Dorrel) Davis, Allen (Kimberly) Bone, Scott (Lindsay) Bone and several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Elmer Bone. Memorials may be given in memory of Mark, to Kiya Koda Humane Society in Indianola.
