Services for Reva Bennett, 92, who died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at the Indianola Westview Care Center where she had been a resident for the past eight years, will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola, IA. of which she was a member. Burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.
She was born August 26, 1915, in Lewis County, West Virginia, daughter of the late Nick P. and Denna M. Squires Winemiller. On April 11, 1936, she married Benson A. Bennett, also of Weston, W.V., who preceded her death in 1984. Two sisters, Vivian Winemiller Gregoire Rollins and Emma Zoe Winemiller Stalker preceded her death, in 1975 and 2006 respectively.
She is survived by one niece, Joy Stalnaker, Horner, W.V.; two nephews, R. Jene Gregoire, Coalport, PA, and K. Terry Stalker, Albuquerque, N.M.; five grand nephews and nieces, and seventeen great-grand nephews and nieces; two nieces of the heart, Susie Bailey Wiechec, Tuscon, AZ; and Beverly Moneypenny, Weston; special friends, Joel and Nancy Meyer of Cummings, IA, and Jim and Maddie Summitt of Indianola.
She retired in 1977 from B.F. Goodrich Company, Akron, OH, with 36 years service. With her husband, she relocated to Iowa in 1980. In 1981, she was employed by the Iowa Department of Commerce, Des Moines, IA, from where she retired in 1996.
She was a charter member and past matron of The Lakes Chapter #567, O.E.S., Akron, OH, and past secretary of Indianola Chapter #338, O.E.S., Indianola. She was a member of the Indianola Business and Professional Women and was named their Woman of the Year in 1995. She was also a member of the Bevington Garden Club and the Hacker's Creek Pioneer Descendants in Weston.
Visitation will be held 4 – 8 p.m. Friday, August 1 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present from 6 – 8 p.m. to greet friends. Order of Eastern Star Services will be held 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Indianola Chapter #338, O.E.S., Indianola, or to the Hacker's Creek Pioneer Descendants, 45 Abbotts Run Road, Horner, W.V. 26372.
