Obituary

Services for Reuben Core, 90, who died Monday, June 8, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of respiratory failure, will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 11 at Farmer's Chapel United Methodist Church, rural Indianola of which he was a member.  Burial with military rites will follow in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Reuben was born in rural Pleasantville, Iowa; graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1936; served in the United States Navy during WWII; and united in marriage to Phyllis Stone February 23, 1946 in Stockton, CA.  For six years, he was on the Warren County Oil Board of Directors and was a charter member of the Evening Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons, Alan (Denise) Core and Anthony (Suzanne) Core all of Indianola and Howard (Carolee) Core of Carlisle; four grandchildren, Leah Core of Chandler, AZ, Alyssa Core of Ashland, WI, Chad (Susan) Core of Ankeny, and Aaron (Amanda) Core of Indianola; three great-grandchildren, Seth Core of Ankeny, Aiden Core of Indianola and Tiffany LeMaster of Des Moines; brothers, Maurice (Carole) Core of Columbus, OH, and Lyle Core of Indianola; sisters, Elizabeth Kelso of Des Moines, Jessie Heaberlin of Pleasantville and Dorothy Templeton of Knoxville.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10 at Overton Funeral Home with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Iowa Lions Eye Bank or Farmers Chapel United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be sent at www.overtonfunerals.com
