IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond Jacob
Heisner
March 20, 1923 – April 5, 2019
Raymond Jacob Heisner, 96, of Indianola passed away Friday, April 5, 2019, at the Indianola Good Samaritan Society. After a long and blessed life, he has entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 9 at the Indianola Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Ray was born March 20, 1923 in Grand Chain, Illinois to Jacob and Anna Heisner. Growing up, he worked alongside his father on their family farm and learned the carpentry trade. On May 26, 1943, he entered the United States Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific until his honorable discharge on November 29, 1945. On August 1, 1946, he was united in marriage to Constance Ella Moeller and five children were born to this union.
After moving to Indianola in 1950, he began his work as a self-employed contractor. Many homes in Indianola and surrounding communities were built or remodeled by Ray or had his touch on them in some way, even if it was assisting a homeowner who wanted to "do the work himself." Due to closures of other local lumber companies, he opened Indianola Building Supply in 1963 to supply his own construction business and provide a retail outlet for the community. After selling his company in 1978, he continued working in construction until his retirement in 2008.
Ray and Connie were charter members of Mt Calvary Lutheran Church in Indianola, where both served in several capacities through the years.
Left to mourn his absence are his daughter, Karla Rose (Steve) Roush; grandchildren, Stephany Ray (Casey) Goodhue, Jaime (Steve) Myers, Jontie Roush; great-grandchildren, Max Goodhue, Nicolas Goodhue, Mason Ray Myers, Joseph Goodhue, Amari Rose Myers, Benjamin Goodhue, Madon Myers and Thomas J Roush. Also surviving are his brothers, Robert Heisner of Metropolis, Illinois and Carl Heisner of Grand Chain, Illinois. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Connie; sons, Gary Ray, Ritchie Lee, Peter Jacob and Paul Arthur (twins); brother, Russell; and sisters, Vera, Ella and Helen.
Visitation will be held prior to services from noon to 2 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to Marines Toys for Tots Foundation or Boys Town. To view a complete obituary or sign an online condolence, visit our website at www.overtonfunerals.com.
