Phyllis Arlene Halvorsen, 88, passed away peacefully at The Village in Indianola, Iowa, on Thursday, August 6, 2026, surrounded by her four children.
Phyllis was born May 17, 1938 in Osceola to Lloyd and Mildred Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen Halvorsen; sister, Margaret Rogers; brother, Harold Miller; and son-in-law, Clint Bauer. Survivors include her four children, Janet Bauer, Cindy (Albert) Butler, Rick (Rebecca) Halvorsen, and Judy (Scott) Webster; eight grandchildren, Lisa (Mike) Msuya, Jenny (Chad) Septer, Gene (Katie) Butler, Nathan (Danni) Bauer, Brandon (Nikki) Bauer, Dana (Phillip) Duncan, Darcey (Robert) Parker, Lauren (Devon) Tucker; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Phyllis married Allen Halvorsen on July 28, 1954 in Osceola. They lived briefly in Clarke County before moving to a dairy farm in Warren County. They purchased a farm near Medora and built a dairy farm of 100 cows. Phyllis was invaluable on the farm doing the many tasks required to keep a large farm running including frequently climbing to the top of the 90-foot Harvestore silo.
While living near Medora, they were members of the Medora Methodist Church, where she was an active member of the Ladies Aid and enjoyed spending time with the ladies of the community.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 10, 2026 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, with burial following in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Osceola. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made in memory of Phyllis to the Medora Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
